Day 1- San Juan Bautista, CA
Hi to all my friends! Your Rolling Retriever is on the road again, escorting Geri and Don through a
trip into our Northwest Territories for a month or so. Geri says a month. Don says or so. Initial target is the Yokum Family Reunion in Canyonville, OR next weekend, then up to Washington for a visit with my puppyhood mentor, Gary. We know that Don's got a lot of side trips planned, but he's being a little coy about describing them. All I'm sure of is that it's going to be a lot of fun for me!
We got off to a fairly decent start this morning, departing Ventura about eleven. The trip north on the 101 was uneventful until we reached Salinas in the late afternoon, when we merged with flood of traffic that was departing from the auto races at Laguna Seca, and we slowed to a crawl. Don was particularly miffed by these circumstances, as he has long wanted to attend this event, which is a weekend of racing for cars just slightly younger than he is. So, today he was growling about getting to experience only the worst part of the race weekend, the outbound traffic jam.
We finally rolled into our favorite RV facility in this area, Betabel RV Park, got checked in and situated in our site. Then the problems started. Faithful followers of this blog will recall that our last voyage ended a little early due to electrical problems experienced in a site that Don said was having voltage problems, whatever that means. Well, after getting hooked up to the power system here, getting the TV going, and stoking up the air conditioner, the system went down again. After inspecting all the components of the power system, Don decided to take a mechanical engineering approach to an electrical problem; finding a good sized pipe wrench, he proceeded to pound it on the transfer switch. Miraculously, the system sprang back to life, though not for long. The evening was punctuated by periodic TV failures, prompting more transfer switch bludgeoning. Don announced a change of plans for tomorrow's ventures; into Camping World, just north of Gilroy, and turn the problem over to them.
Please excuse the lack of decor on the blog for right now; Don wants to get a new photo of me to head up the piece, and will do so as soon as his electrical troubles are over! In the meantime, Ta-ta!
