Day 2- Gilroy, CA
I haven't mentioned this before, but I watch a lot of movies. Mostly in the evening, when I'm in the bedroom with Geri. The ones that interest me most are those that involve dogs, particularly working dogs, like me. (No scoffing, please.) I've recently seen a couple of shows that included dogs that are responsible for guarding property where people's castoff property is stored for future use or reclamation. These canines are often derisively termed "Junkyard Dogs". They are usually held prisoner in an area enclosed by a high fence, and are trained to dismember human intruders on their property. Tonight, I have a better understanding of their lives.
We find ourselves in a totally fenced-in facility, with a view of numerous semi-abandoned RV's, next to a busy freeway. Not a blade of grass in sight. True, we do have a key to the padlock on the front gate of this place, but that doesn't really dissipate the junkyard atmosphere. Don calls it an RV Repair Facility. Of course, there's a very good reason for our presence here. After a TV-less evening last night and a coffee-less rising this morning, my people were very poorly gruntled. After getting some recommendations from the RV Park people, Don called Bay City RV Repair in Gilroy, and arranged for our home on wheels to be put in their care. Their investigations showed that the troublesome transfer switch had been the subject of a recall by the manufacturer some years ago, though we had not been notified. There had been concern over the potential for the switch overheating and causing a fire. The Manager here at Bay City told us that he had been involved in several transfer switch problems recently, one of which had caused a serious fire. We're all very happy that we didn't face that outcome.
Truthfully, we're pretty comfortable here, as we can run the generator all day and night, giving us all the electricity we can use for air conditioning, coffee making and other needs. So, we should be leaving our little enclosure here sometime tomorrow afternoon, sporting a new transfer switch, ready to be powered up by the many RV Parks in our future. See ya manyana!
